The City of Toledo nightmare is over. Our water has tested safe, finally. Now I have to find space for the ten gallons of water I have stacked in my dining room. I'll have to flush out my water heater and the rest of the lines in the house, but at least my family can use the water to wash the dishes and every thing else.

Cool, good to hear! I just read about that whole kerfuffle and they made it sound like it was going to take longer. How did they do it?

I assume it was several testing procedures, as there is no EPA regulation regarding this type of algae toxin. The testing is based upon a World Health Organ. guideline of 2 parts per billion, which the city exceeded on Saturday morning. It is now below that rating. The quicker is, the was no testing for this toxin before 2012ish, as it was not considered a problem, so, for as far as I know, the water supply could have been contaminated before now. And, as these algae blooms happen more often, this could be a reoccurring situation.

What makes it even worse is that apparently boiling the water makes it even more toxic. Let's keep our finger crossed that it won't happen again.

I hope it gets better but my wife says it won't. I'm about 45 minutes north of Toledo in Metro Detroit and people were up here buying our stores out of bottled/jugged water as well.

She Majored in Environmental Studies and Applications, specializing in Waste Water and Environmental Studies with a Professional Certificate in Watershed Management, she also holds certifications with DOT for hazardous waste.

To sum it up, from what I can understand from her science-bable lol, Lake Erie is dying. The Algae problem from fertilizers (and one odd thing she pointed out- people not taking care of dog poop and it washing into the lake, I can't imagine who had THAT job to track it all/figure it out) the Algae goes NUTSO for this stuff and creates such a thick layer along the surface that the sunlight can't get down to the plant life under the water, this also traps any nitrogen/other stuff under water plants release which causes more dead "Seaweed" and stuff causing more and more problems.

I told her it sounds like they need a giant pond skimmer, to which she laughed and said, yeah if only it were that simple. Unfortunately people have treated the great lakes like crap.
